ASO Score: a free ASO checker for Chrome

Open any App Store or Google Play listing and a score out of 100 appears in the corner. Click it for the five sub-scores and the top 3 fixes in plain words. It works on your own app and on any competitor's, and it never leaves the page.

What the extension checks

The same rubric as the ASO Score tool, worked out in your browser from the public listing. Each part is scored 0 to 100 and weighted into the total.

PartWeightWhat is checked
Title and subtitle25Title length against the 30-character limit, a keyword beyond the brand name, subtitle (Apple, 30) or short description (Google Play, 80) length
Description25Your title keyword in the first 170 characters, a short opening sentence, length, sections or bullets, a call to action
Ratings20Average rating against 4.5, and rating volume
Visuals20Screenshots against the 10 slots on Apple and 8 on Google Play, and whether there is a preview video
Freshness10Days since the last update, plus language count on Apple

The limits come from Apple's product page guide and the Play Console help: Apple name and subtitle 30 characters each, up to 10 screenshots; Google Play title 30, short description 80, full description 4,000, up to 8 screenshots per device type.

What it cannot see

If you need the written version with findings for each part, the panel has a Get the full report (free) button. It opens the ASO Score tool with your listing already filled in.

How to use it

  1. Add the extension to Chrome.
  2. Open any listing on apps.apple.com or play.google.com.
  3. Read the score in the bottom right corner. Click it for the sub-scores and the top 3 fixes.
  4. Paste a competitor's link into Compare to open and score their listing next.
  5. Click the toolbar icon to see your last 10 scores.

Privacy

The extension only runs on apps.apple.com and play.google.com. It reads the listing you have open and asks Apple's public lookup for the same app. It sends nothing to ApsteQ, has no analytics and loads no remote code. Read the privacy policy.

Questions people ask

Is the ASO Score extension free?

Yes. The score runs inside your browser, so there is nothing for us to charge for. The full written report on apsteq.com is free too; it asks for an email because each report costs us to run.

Does it collect any data?

No. The extension reads the store page you have open, works out the score on your machine and keeps your last 10 scores in Chrome local storage. Nothing is sent to ApsteQ or anyone else. See the privacy policy below.

How is the score worked out?

The same five weights as the ASO Score tool on apsteq.com: title and subtitle 25, description 25, ratings 20, visuals 20, freshness 10. Each part is scored 0 to 100 from public listing data and weighted into the total.

Can I score a competitor's app?

Yes. Open any public App Store or Google Play listing, or paste its link into the Compare box in the panel. Scoring the three apps above you for your main keyword shows what they do that you do not.

Why can it not see my keyword field?

Apple keeps the 100-character keyword field private, and neither store publishes conversion rate, impressions or rankings. The extension scores what the public page shows, which is also what your users see.

Why is the Google Play screenshot count approximate?

Google Play shows phone, tablet and Chromebook screenshots in one page and does not label which is which. The extension counts unique screenshots and compares them with the 8 slots per device type.

What is the difference between the extension and the full report?

The extension gives you the number, the five sub-scores and the top 3 fixes in a second. The full report on apsteq.com reads the same listing and writes findings and this-week fixes for each part.
